About The Position

Resound Credit Union is seeking a full-time Underwriter to join their growing team at their Franklin location. This position involves evaluating and analyzing loan documents to make sound decisions on consumer loan requests, adhering to RCU loan policy guidelines and federal/state laws. The Underwriter will contribute to the credit union's goal of providing superior service to members and dealer partners.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Consumer lending experience and computer skills are required.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, visual, audio, and verbal communication skills are needed.
  • Ability to function in an environment of occasional high stress.
  • Can work in a fast-paced environment and be extremely detailed with excellent time management skills.
  • A caring, sincere, positive attitude is required for this position.
  • Effective communication skills and excellent customer service skills are required.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented with good time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet tight schedules.
  • Must possess analytical thinking skills and demonstrate flexibility to apply lending criteria on case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to retain credit union policies and procedures as well as federal and state lending laws and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree in business or related field is preferred.
  • Three years of practical experience may be accepted in place of degree.
  • Three year's previous financial institution experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Examines and verifies accuracy of loan applications.
  • Reviews and verifies employment records, income statements, tax returns, credit reports, and other financial documents to assess risk of extending credit.
  • Assesses whether debt-to-income ratio meets credit union lending standards.
  • Calculates and verifies value of collateral offered.
  • Uses sound judgment in decision making throughout the loan approval or denial process.
  • Assists staff with recognizing cross-selling opportunities of credit union products and services.
  • Underwrites and approves loans, within authorized limits, based on credit union policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of and follows all federal and state consumer lending laws and regulations including and not limited to the guidelines of the Patriot Act (MIP), the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Bribery Act, NCUA Privacy Regulations, Reg. B, Reg. Z, Reg. DD, Reg. E, Reg. CC, Service Members Civil Relief, and FCRA/FACTA.
  • Makes alternative recommendations, within guidelines, to creditworthy members not qualified for loan requested.
  • Maintains communication with branch staff regarding loan application status and updates as necessary.
  • Promotes and maintains confidential environment to protect member information.
  • Ensures adverse action letters are completed and properly documented within loan guidelines and policies.
  • Abides by the written, signed Loan Officer Agreement.
  • Stays informed and knowledgeable of all credit union rates, fees, products, services, and promotions to assist members with meeting their financial needs.
  • Provides members opportunity to purchase payment protection and GAP insurance.
  • Assists branch offices with online loan applications including documentation and funding.
  • Attends required training and department meetings as directed by management.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
