About The Position

The Consumer Loan Officer I position is responsible for soliciting, negotiating, underwriting and coordinating the closing of primarily basic consumer and real estate extensions of credit to establish their customer portfolio; and for adhering to lending policies designed to meet the bank’s overall goals. This role involves business development, customer relationship management, financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with bank policies and regulations. The position also requires promoting other bank products and maintaining a professional work environment.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial lending standards, principles, and practices.
  • Good understanding of lending calculations (APY, APR, amortization, etc.).
  • Good persuasion skills with ability to motivate and influence others and cultivate key relationships in the community.
  • Proven ability to ensure that all assigned department tasks/projects are fully implemented and completed in a timely and professional manner.
  • Good verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to work independently utilizing strong time management and planning skills to meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to complete daily tasks with minimal supervision or oversight.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with staff and other employees.
  • Good knowledge of lending software including Onboard Loans Lending Platform or comparable web-software.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office including proficiency in Word and Outlook.
  • Experience working with Adobe Acrobat and electronic signature software products, such as, E-Sign.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related area or equivalent combination of education and related work experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Good working knowledge of Excel and WebEquity software preferred.
  • Some experience in consumer or residential lending preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Soliciting, negotiating, underwriting, and coordinating the closing of consumer and real estate extensions of credit.
  • Developing a customer portfolio and adhering to lending policies.
  • Engaging in business development activities and soliciting new business.
  • Developing relationships with potential and current customers, interviewing them to obtain information for credit decisions, and establishing proper identification.
  • Presenting the bank’s product line to customers and cross-selling where appropriate.
  • Analyzing applicant financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine creditworthiness.
  • Gathering and analyzing information to present financing requests to Senior Management or Loan Committee.
  • Negotiating loan terms and conditions, approving loans within established limits, or referring them for approval.
  • Collaborating with the Loan Processing Manager to ensure proper processing and coordination of approved loans.
  • Ensuring credit inquiries and UCC filings are researched and collateral positioning is achieved.
  • Preparing and signing documents for the lending area.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of the financial industry, economy, market conditions, rates, vendors, and competition.
  • Reviewing daily NSF and overdraft reports for customers and approving or declining overdraft exceptions.
  • Monitoring loan account ratings for individual portfolios and providing portfolio reports.
  • Developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge of bank products, services, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Providing effective customer service by answering questions, investigating errors, and resolving problems.
  • Representing the bank in community, civic, and community reinvestment functions.
  • Promoting other bank products by staying current on available offerings and matching customers to new services.
  • Complying with bank operations and security policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and work area.
  • Maintaining customer confidentiality and protecting bank operations.
  • Maintaining knowledge of and complying with regulatory guidelines and bank policies and procedures.
  • Performing other related work as assigned.
