About The Position

This role is within Nationwide's Technology team, supporting a Fortune 100 company. The position focuses on advancing the supplier risk strategy across the entire third-party lifecycle, including due diligence, ongoing monitoring, and periodic reassessment. The role involves supporting the design and enhancement of governance frameworks, strengthening compliance practices, contributing to reporting, and collaborating with various internal teams (sourcing, legal, cyber, business) to manage third-party risk. The ideal candidate is curious about risk and controls, comfortable in structured environments, and can translate framework requirements into practical processes and metrics. Experience in procurement, third-party risk, control frameworks, audit, or controllership is beneficial. The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to use data for insights and recommendations, and excellent relationship management skills. There is an interest in growing into broader leadership responsibilities over time.

Requirements

  • Typically, 8 or more years of business experience in risk assessment, risk assurance or supplier risk management or closely-related equivalent professional experience.
  • Knowledge of risk management and/or supply chain management.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills to resolve moderately complex risk management problems.
  • Technical expertise to analyze and synthesize data for reporting purposes.
  • Ability to execute activities associated with the implementation of risk management processes.
  • Dynamic individual with proven interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including presentation and training skills.
  • Ability to display confidence and establish credibility.
  • Project management, analytical, and business savvy.
  • Process improvement approach.
  • Skills in mathematical, financial or statistical concepts to support various aspects of planning and analysis.
  • Candidates must be based within a commutable distance to Columbus, Ohio.
  • This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in procurement, third-party risk, control frameworks, audit, or controllership is a plus but not required.
  • Hands-on experience applying control or risk frameworks in a business setting, designing or refining processes, aligning them to policies and standards, and measuring effectiveness.
  • Undergraduate degree with studies in finance, accounting, procurement or supply chain management is preferred.
  • Supplier risk management or risk assessment certifications such as CTPRP, CRMP, PMI-RMP, ERM, PRM, FRM or other related certifications are preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and may serve as a project lead in the development, implementation, and administration of the Enterprise Supplier Risk Management (ESRM) program and governance processes, including procedures, analysis and coordinating supplier risk efforts with internal partners.
  • Provides in-depth consulting towards the development and implementation of risk strategies in alignment with respective business unit initiatives.
  • Supports the development and implementation of risk policies, procedures, processes and programs to ensure availability, confidentiality, integrity, and authentication.
  • Monitors and reports on supplier risks at the supplier, risk type and aggregate levels.
  • Drives the implementation and maintenance of supplier risk information and reporting, including defining standard supplier risk metrics/measures, trend analysis and developing reporting and analysis standards and requirements.
  • Owns the engineering, planning, design, implementation and testing of complex enterprise risk management technologies, including research and development of best practices and the implementation of complex and comprehensive mitigating solutions for business applications.
  • Reviews and provides detailed analysis of internal data in relation and comparison to business strategies, market research, and other external benchmarking to provide strategic insight, consideration of opportunities and alignment of the supplier risk framework to the enterprise goals.
  • Manages due diligence associated with identified supplier risk and tracks ongoing monitoring efforts in alignment with the framework.
  • Leads implementation efforts, including documentation, training and communications.
  • Reviews and recommends revisions to the framework with risk assurance partners and senior management input.
  • Monitors framework is in use and effectively adopted.
  • Assists efforts related to discovery and response to regulatory and external requests.
  • Guides business unit partners in understanding and responding to risk audits and assessments.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
