Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, train and evaluate occupational safety and health programs, environmental protection programs and skills training programs.
  • Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plan and implement programs to train employees in work site safety practices, equipment and tools, fire prevention, and environmentally correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Prepare, study, and analyze industrial accident causes and hazards to health and the environment for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Inspect organization facilities to detect existing or potential accidents, health, and environmental hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Conduct construction site inspections and assess safety accidents and environmental violations.
  • Utilize knowledge of construction safety-related engineering discipline and operating regulations, environmental compliance as it relates to construction and training skills.
  • Collaborates with Loss Control in development of new procedures and approaches to safety, loss prevention and environmental compliance based on reports of incidents, accidents, violation notifications and other data gathered from field personnel.
  • Support investigations of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Compile and submit accident reports to the Loss Control required by regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in disseminating information to management and others regarding toxic substances, hazards, and other safety, environmental and training information.
  • Measure, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of self-directed programs, using established goals.
  • Conduct building and offsite inspections on a periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and management of yearly safety, environmental, and training budgets.
  • Assist in the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
  • Assist in the submittals and maintenance of records related to safety and health programs, environmental compliance programs, and employee skills training programs.
  • Handle and record all worker compensation/insurance claims regarding injuries, thefts, and property damage.
  • Participates in formulating and administering company policies and developing tactical (short-range) and strategic (long-range) goals and objectives. Establishes tactical and strategic objectives, plans, and policies, subject to the approval of Loss Control.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of employees for which responsibility is delegated to further attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Reviews analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine progress and/or needed adjustments toward stated goals and objectives.
  • Confers with Loss Control to discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current status and conditions.
  • Responsible for updating, maintaining and submitting yearly OSHA logs
