About The Position

The Construction Manager is responsible for managing the onsite construction, commissioning, and turnover of Data Center projects. This role supports the Lead CM by managing contractors, designers, and vendors. The position involves ownership of the construction scope, including retrofits of existing data halls and build-outs of new spaces within the leased portfolio across North America. The Construction Manager provides project coordination between Contractors, Consultants, and Cross-Functional Partners, fostering strong relationships to drive efficiency through innovation, process, and accountability. They are involved in project planning, scoping, and schedule creation, managing the cost change process, and negotiating pricing. The role requires managing schedules and associated risks to ensure predictable turnover dates, reporting upward on opportunities, risks, and mitigations. Responsibilities include monthly WIP walks for invoicing, regular site walks to track progress, and confirming handover conditions. The Construction Manager also assists with developing capital project budgets, providing ROM construction cost estimates, and managing monthly CapEx forecasting. They provide analysis and action plans based on project status reports, manage Method of Procedures (MOPs) for retrofit/remedy work in live data centers, and facilitate interaction between contractors, Meta, and 3rd party QA/QC teams. Project closeout is a key responsibility, and the Construction Manager escalates key issues quickly to the Construction Manager. Promoting continuous improvement, partnership, and teamwork, as well as supporting an industry-leading safety culture, are essential. Approximately 50% travel to support project sites across North America is required.

Requirements

  • 7 - 10 years experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers/critical infrastructure.
  • General knowledge of electrical, mechanical and connectivity systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time in different phases.
  • Mission Critical, infrastructure, and/or Data Center Construction Experience.
  • Experience in commissioning of retrofit and new data center build outs.
  • Knowledge of CPM scheduling practices and familiarity with Primavera P6 software.
  • Functional in MS Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint etc.).
  • Needs to be able to travel as needed.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously ranging from 600k to $100M.
  • 50% Travel to sites across North America as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree and/or minimum of 7-10 years professional experience in any combination of construction, operations, maintenance, and project planning.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the onsite construction, commissioning, and turnover of Data Center projects.
  • Supporting the Lead CM including contractor, designer, and vendor management.
  • Ownership of the construction scope, including retrofits of existing data halls and build outs of new spaces within the leased portfolio across North America.
  • Providing project coordination between Contractors, Consultants and Cross Functional Partners.
  • Providing construction leadership at the site by developing and maintaining strong relationships with our cross functional partners, consultants, vendors and contractors.
  • Identifying, defining, and gaining cross functional alignment around opportunities to drive efficiency through innovation, process, and accountability.
  • Providing project planning and scoping by working with cross functional partners and internal customers to identify, sequence and package work scopes for execution.
  • Aiding in the creation and maintenance of project schedules with support from Project Controls and Scheduling.
  • Managing the cost change process and negotiating best pricing in partnership with cross functional / matrixed team members in cost and schedule.
  • Managing the schedule and associated risks to ensure reliable and predictable turnover dates. Reporting upward on opportunities, risks, and mitigations to ensure predictable delivery of capacity.
  • Responsible for monthly WIP walks to validate work in place for invoicing and regular site walks amongst Contractors, consultants and cross functional partners to track progress and confirm handover conditions are met.
  • Managing relationships with the contractor, and designer.
  • Assisting with developing capital project budgets and provide ROM construction cost estimates.
  • Managing monthly CapEx forecasting for all project related costs.
  • Providing analysis and action plan based on weekly project status report (financial, schedule, Q/C).
  • Managing Method of Procedures (MOPs) for any retrofit/remedy work in live data center.
  • Facilitating interaction between Contractor, Meta and 3rd party QA/QC teams.
  • Responsible for Project Closeout.
  • Escalating key issues quickly to Construction Manager.
  • Promoting and modeling an attitude of continuous improvement, partnership, and teamwork in behaviors and communications.
  • Supporting and leading an industry leading safety culture and program.
