About The Position

S&ME is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Department in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This role involves managing technically challenging projects, expanding the company's presence in Southeast Tennessee, and serving as the primary client contact. S&ME has a 50-year history of delivering innovative geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction material testing services across various industries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of industry experience and professional certifications.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing or coordinating Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspections, or Geotechnical Consulting projects.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, client communications, and technical deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of ASTM standards and construction quality assurance practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Willing and able to perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as: Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions, Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day, Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment), Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites.
  • Candidates must comply with our Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Only candidates with valid employment eligibility (I-9) will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple construction materials testing (CMT) and geotechnical consulting projects from proposal through completion, ensuring successful delivery of scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
  • Develop project scopes, fee proposals, work plans, and schedules while leading kickoff meetings and coordinating field, laboratory, and technical teams.
  • Review construction documents, specifications, geotechnical reports, testing requirements, and technical deliverables to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with ASTM standards and project specifications.
  • Oversee project financial performance, including budgeting, invoicing, profitability, and accounts receivable, while building strong client relationships and identifying opportunities for additional services.
  • Mentor engineers, technicians, and inspectors, champion a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and collaborate with leadership to support growth initiatives throughout the Chattanooga market.
