About The Position

S&ME is seeking a hard-working and flexible individual to join our Ashville, North Carolina Construction Services team as an Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineering Technician. This role involves frequent travel and hands-on work, primarily outdoors, ensuring construction quality and safety. You will gain practical experience in concrete, soils, asphalt, and masonry testing, supported by paid on-the-job training and certification assistance. The position requires adaptability to shifting work hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, possible holidays, and overtime, based on project needs and weather conditions.

High School diploma/GED

Effective communication skills in English (speaking, reading, writing)
Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
Understanding of a fluctuating weekly schedule and frequent travel
Ability to perform physical demands including working outdoors in varying weather conditions, walking over rough terrain, standing for up to 12 hours a day, and routinely lifting/carrying 40-50lbs.
Ability to maneuver field equipment safely.
Valid employment eligibility (I-9).

Nice To Haves

Willingness to obtain certifications through ACI and ICC.

Responsibilities

Perform field and lab tests on construction materials such as concrete, soils, and asphalt.
Maintain testing equipment.
Ensure accurate and complete reporting of test results.
Conduct inspections per IBC codes.
Document findings and manage data using Metafield®.
Start with concrete sampling and testing, then expand into soils, asphalt, and masonry.
