About The Position

S&ME is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Knoxville, Tennessee. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on, outdoor work and is eager to learn and grow within the construction materials engineering field. As a vital member of our team, you will ensure construction projects meet quality and safety standards through field and lab testing, inspections, and accurate documentation. You will start with basic concrete sampling and testing, with opportunities to expand into soils, asphalt, and masonry. The position offers paid, on-the-job training, support for certifications (ACI, ICC), and exposure to diverse projects across various industries. You will work outdoors year-round, perform inspections per IBC codes, and manage data using Metafield®. The role involves a fluctuating weekly schedule with potential for early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn.
  • Strong work ethic and team mindset.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills in English (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
  • Understanding of a fluctuating weekly schedule and occasional travel.
  • Willingness and ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including working outdoors in varying weather conditions, walking over rough terrain, standing for up to 12 hours a day, and routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs.
  • Ability to maneuver field equipment safely.
  • Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9).
