About The Position

S&ME is seeking an Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a hands-on career that gets you out from behind a desk, where no two days are exactly alike. This opportunity allows you to develop technical skills, work on a variety of construction projects, and build a long-term career in the engineering and construction industry. No prior construction materials testing experience is required. S&ME will provide the training, mentorship, and support needed to help you succeed. S&ME has a history of delivering innovative geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction material testing for over 50 years and has grown into a trusted partner for clients across various industries. As an Entry-Level Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you'll help verify that construction materials and workmanship meet project requirements. From day one, you'll work alongside experienced professionals, gaining hands-on experience through field testing, inspections, and construction observation while building technical skills that serve as the foundation for a long-term career. The Atlanta team supports projects throughout metro Atlanta and across Georgia, ranging from commercial developments and educational facilities to transportation and infrastructure improvements. You'll work alongside experienced technicians, engineers, and project managers while gaining exposure to a variety of project types and jobsite environments. This opening resulted from an internal transfer, reflecting the career growth opportunities available throughout S&ME. Requirements

High School diploma/GED
Strong work ethic and a team mindset
Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills in English, including speaking, reading, and writing
Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
Understanding of a fluctuating weekly schedule and occasional travel
Valid U.S. driver's license, with an acceptable driving record
Ability to safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs
Willingness to complete a background check, driving record check, and drug screen upon offer of employment
Willing and able to perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment
Willing to work the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
Willing to walk over rough, uneven terrain and stand for potentially up to 12 hours a day
Willing to routinely lift and carry 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
Willing to maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites

Responsibilities

Help verify that construction materials and workmanship meet project requirements.
Gain hands-on experience through field testing, inspections, and construction observation.
Learn construction materials testing, starting with concrete sampling and testing, then expanding into soils, asphalt, and masonry.
Perform field and lab tests.
Maintain equipment.
Ensure accurate, complete reporting.
Conduct inspections per IBC codes.
Document findings.
Manage data using Metafield®.
