About The Position

S&ME is seeking motivated, full-time Construction Materials Engineering Technicians at all experience levels to join their Construction Services group in Greenville, North Carolina. This role is suitable for individuals launching their careers or seasoned technicians looking for a fresh challenge. Technicians will ensure construction projects meet quality and safety standards through field and lab testing, sample collection and preparation, data interpretation, reporting, and collaboration with project teams. The role requires flexibility in work hours, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime, with occasional travel to support other offices compensated with per diem and lodging.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate Technician/Technician I: 0-2 years relevant experience
  • Technician II: 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with an Associate's degree
  • Technician III: 3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with an Associate's degree
  • Technician IV: 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Basic math proficiency, including understanding of measurements and units of weight
  • Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel
  • Valid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs
  • Willingness to complete a background check, driving record check and drug screen upon offer of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels
  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
  • Industry certifications such as American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician, and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)

Responsibilities

  • Performing field and laboratory testing on construction materials like concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
  • Collecting and preparing samples for analysis.
  • Interpreting test results and preparing detailed reports.
  • Working closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure all work meets specifications and safety guidelines.
  • Shifting work hours based on project demands and weather, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime (paid at time and a half).
  • Occasional travel to support other offices.
