About The Position

The Construction Manager is responsible for managing and organizing all aspects of a division, very large project, or multiple projects. This role requires competency in 4 or more work disciplines and involves managing large salaried staffs, efficiently managing resource utilization, and supporting construction equipment analysis. The position focuses on cost performance, productivity, quality, and safe work practices and administration. The Construction Manager will also be involved in strategic planning, staff development, and fostering positive relationships with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Minimum two year Associate's degree.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • Ability to sell the capabilities of self and of Austin to potential customers.
  • Ability to present Austin’s value proposition to prospective customers to grow revenue.
  • Competency in 4 or more work disciplines (civil, structural steel, fixed equipment, piping, I&E, soft craft, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in operational strategic planning.
  • Manage and organize all aspects of a division, very large project, or multiple projects.
  • Be competent in 4 or more work disciplines (civil, structural steel, fixed equipment, piping, I&E, soft craft, etc.).
  • Manage large salaried staffs.
  • Efficiently manage resource utilization across multiple projects.
  • Support construction equipment buy/rent/sell analysis.
  • Recruit staff.
  • Manage schedules.
  • Oversee divisional staff development and management.
  • Ensure cost performance.
  • Drive productivity performance and improvement.
  • Ensure quality construction.
  • Ensure safe work performance, practices, and administration.
  • Leverage resources across multiple projects to enhance construction efficiencies.
  • Review the nature and scope of the project(s), materials, equipment, and manpower requirements.
  • Plan the physical layout of jobsite(s) with Project Managers.
  • Initiate startup activities including site security, trailer placement, utility hookups, and storage.
  • Ensure development of quality Work Plans.
  • Establish procedures for ordering self-perform materials, supplies, and small tools.
  • Participate in buy/rent/sell decisions for capital equipment.
  • Participate in long-term labor resource need forecasting.
  • Meet or exceed bid productivity and cost targets.
  • Take corrective action to improve productivity when labor costs exceed expected norms.
  • Use understanding of production rates to aid in review of bid estimates and project change orders.
  • Ensure Superintendents develop innovative methods for increasing efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
  • Provide feedback and coaching on work progress.
  • Ensure staff is trained and compliant with Performance Reporting.
  • Complete project milestones on or before contract requirements.
  • Assist in the development of conceptual and baseline schedules for projects.
  • Be responsible for the selection of equipment for projects.
  • Direct priority of operations, allocation of equipment and materials for field supervision.
  • Ensure detailed construction planning is performed by staff (e.g., 3-week and general construction plans).
  • Regularly review project planning and schedule performance.
  • Be responsible for overall quality construction performance.
  • Ensure all field construction work conforms to quality plans.
  • Supervise or assign staff to supervise all activities performed on the jobsite.
  • Organize staff into an effectively coordinated working unit, promoting learning, career advancement, and coaching.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with customer representatives, engineers, consulting firms, and other parties.
  • Resolve problems at the lowest practical level through direct negotiations.
  • Foster and promote the training and development of subordinates.
  • Work with leadership on organizational strategies.
  • Be responsible for accident- and incident-free execution of all work activities.
  • Ensure compliance with the company’s Safety & Health policies.
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance in resolving construction problems.
  • Investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and work quality.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.

  • Ensure successful project completion.
  • Ensure compliance with staff Daily Reporting and Performance Reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
