About The Position

Universal Rail Solutions Inc. is seeking a Construction Manager for the Mobilinx Hurontario LRT to lead project execution, oversee field operations, and ensure that safety, quality, and performance expectations are consistently met across all project activities. The Construction Manager is responsible for managing and leading crews and foremen to successfully deliver railway construction and maintenance projects. This role ensures that project execution meets expectations related to safety, quality, scheduling, profitability, and customer satisfaction. You will oversee construction activities from project initiation through completion, ensuring all contractual, regulatory, and operational requirements are met while maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams. This role is more than project oversight — it’s about leading teams, driving performance, and ensuring excellence in execution.

Requirements

  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence
  • High school diploma with post-secondary education in a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of recent construction experience, preferably in railway or heavy civil projects
  • Training in First Aid, WHMIS, Confined Space, CSTS, and other required safety certifications
  • Strong leadership and supervisory experience managing crews and foremen
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer-relations skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to organize, develop, and communicate work schedules and project goals
  • Ability to perform physical field work, including bending and lifting
  • Safe use of hand and power tools
  • Strong judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team-based environments

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adequate resources are in place, including labour, equipment, and materials
  • Review contracts, plans, and project documentation to ensure work aligns with current specifications and scope
  • Pre-plan work activities, including development of best means and methods and safety action plans
  • Supervise construction and maintenance activities to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget
  • Assign work to crews and manage day-to-day field operations
  • Investigate and implement alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and quality
  • Communicate effectively with Project Managers, General Contractors, clients, and subcontractors to ensure alignment and coordination
  • Champion a strong safety culture by modeling best practices and enforcing company policies and procedures
  • Ensure all required safety equipment is available and used by field personnel
  • Conduct administrative duties, including: Production reporting, Timesheet approvals and job coding, Equipment logs and inspection reports, Change orders and project documentation updates, Participation in invoicing processes as required
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and instruction to crew members and supervisors
  • Support continuous improvement in field operations and project execution
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
