About The Position

JRM Construction's Summer Internship Program is a 10-week paid experience from June through August, designed to introduce students to the construction industry. Interns work alongside experienced professionals across both field and office settings, gaining meaningful, hands-on exposure to real projects. The program provides valuable insight and practical experience to help prepare students for a successful transition into full-time employment. Interns will experience departmental immersion working hands-on with their Intern Supervisor to gain practical experience within their assigned department. Supervisors will guide development, ensuring work is meaningful and achievable, aligned with learning goals while helping build strong relationships across JRM. Professional Development Fridays will focus on learning, connection, and giving back, including community engagement through volunteer projects, learning and development workshops on communication and skills training (Excel, Resume and LinkedIn optimization, Presentation Skills), and field experience with project site visits led by JRM Superintendents. Interns will also partner with fellow interns on a team-based research project addressing a real-world opportunity or challenge within the construction industry.

Requirements

  • Currently a rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering/Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Statistics, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated interest in construction management with a willingness to learn and grow within the industry.
  • Previous exposure to construction projects through work experience, internships, or trade-based roles.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and support trade coordination and construction sequencing.
  • Attend project meetings, coordination meetings, and inspections as required.
  • Assist in maintaining daily logs, site reports, photos, and progress documentation.
  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, and document control.
  • Assist with inspections, punch lists, and quality documentation.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs, pricing analyses, and cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain subcontractor lists, supplier information, and estimating databases.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams throughout the estimating process.
  • Support bid preparation, tender documentation, and value engineering reviews.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records, project files, and cost databases.
