About The Position

The Laborer performs general labor duties in support of construction, renovation, maintenance, and facility improvement projects across hospital and healthcare facilities. This position assists skilled trades personnel and Facilities staff to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with hospital policies and healthcare regulatory standards. The Laborer plays a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State issued Driver’s License.
  • One (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, or general labor work preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools, materials, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and discretion in a healthcare setting.
  • Willingness to take evening and weekend calls on a rotating basis if required.
  • Sufficient auditory ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including patient alarms and verbal communication.
  • Clear and effective communication is essential, as is the ability to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for observing patient conditions, reading documentation and monitors, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes, such as identifying medications or safety indicators.
  • Tactile perception is also important for assessing physical characteristics such as temperature, size, shape, or texture during patient care.
  • Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks necessary for the use of medical equipment and procedures.
  • The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment.
  • Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift.
  • The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of objects weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety.
  • May to sit for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of skilled carpentry tasks including framing, drywall installation and repair, assist carpenters, construction personnel, and Facilities staff with construction, renovation, and maintenance projects.
  • Perform general labor tasks including demolition, material handling, site preparation, debris removal, and job site clean-up.
  • Transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites as directed.
  • Load and unload construction materials and supplies safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with basic construction tasks such as drywall removal, framing support, insulation installation, and minor repairs under supervision.
  • Set up and maintain proper containment barriers in accordance with Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) requirements.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety signage, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, especially in active patient care environments.
  • Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely as assigned.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and materials to support departmental or facility needs.
  • Support Facilities staff with routine maintenance tasks and work order completion.
  • Report safety hazards, equipment issues, or project concerns promptly to supervisor.
  • Maintain professional conduct, appropriate language, and appearance consistent with a healthcare setting.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
