About The Position

NV5 is seeking a skilled Construction Inspector to join their team in Southern California, focusing on public works projects. This role is crucial for ensuring quality, safety, and compliance on infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and water systems. The Construction Inspector will collaborate with engineers, program managers, and environmental professionals to contribute to sustainable and cost-effective projects.

Requirements

  • Experience and working knowledge of civil construction principles/practices in at least one of the following fields: Municipal and Public Works projects, water and wastewater distribution systems, water and waste water treatment plants.
  • Experience and working knowledge in Transportation projects with a preference for highway and Caltrans roadway projects.
  • Experience and working knowledge with Caltrans MUCTD and Caltrans Construction Manual.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the above experience.
  • Electrical inspection, including SCADA and Instrumentation for City and Agency municipal projects such as lift stations, pumping stations, water treatment plants, signalized intersections, and other electrical municipal projects.
  • Knowledge of building codes, including ICBO, ACI, NEC, local City ordinances, and engineering practices for public works and/or transportation projects and/or electrical SCADA and Instrumentation Projects.
  • Experience providing construction oversight of the Contractor.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, proven ability to interact with individuals at all levels of construction while coordinating multiple, complex projects.
  • Working knowledge of and basic proficiency with computers.
  • Ability to create and use Construction Inspection Daily logs on computer/tablet.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to utilize other construction related software including Microsoft Project and/or Primavera, a plus.
  • Conflict Resolution - Effectively and constructively manage conflicts with others.
  • Safety Awareness - Identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.
  • High School Degree or a related technical field.
  • Candidate must have a valid California Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for transportation projects with a focus on highway and Caltrans roadway projects.
  • Preference given to those who have a minimum of one valid Group II certification.
  • Preference will be given to those who have a minimum of one valid Group II certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with supervisors, contractors, and design professionals to address challenges and ensure seamless project execution.
  • Monitor contractor work and inspect structures and systems to ensure adherence to project plans and specifications.
  • Track costs and schedules, identify risks, and ensure deadlines are met while avoiding budget overruns.
  • Interpret plans and contract terms to ensure all stakeholders are aligned.
  • Recommend solutions for delays, weather disruptions, and site emergencies to maintain efficiency.
  • Represent NV5 by maintaining strong client relationships and assessing their needs to provide optimal solutions.
