About The Position

This position is responsible for inspecting the work of contractors for compliance with approved plans, specifications, and standards. The role involves inspecting the quality of construction of public improvements, reading and interpreting project plans, maintaining records of progress, and handling construction problems in the field. The inspector will also perform material testing, assist with final inspections and project closeouts, and support the Chief Construction Inspector with project review and status communications.

Requirements

  • Be able to read and interpret written material and directions.
  • Be able to print or write manually on appropriate equipment.
  • Perform basic mathematic functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Have two years post secondary education in the field of Engineering Technology or a closely related field or two years experience in a related field.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of a drug test, background investigation, and pre-employment physical.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects the quality of construction of public improvements for compliance to approved plans, specifications, and standards.
  • Reads and interprets project plans.
  • Maintains records of progress and provides summaries as needed for contract administration and historical use.
  • Screens and handles construction problems in the field at project sites.
  • Investigates special or problem situations.
  • Performs material testing.
  • Assists with final inspections and project closeouts.
  • Assist the Chief Construction Inspector with project review and communications of project status.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
