About The Position

The Construction Engineer and Inspection (CEI) Intern will join our team in May of 2027 for a 12-week internship. The CEI Intern will assist our team with infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, and utilities. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world scenarios and develop practical skills in the field of construction engineering and inspection. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced professionals and support various aspects of project management, quality assurance, and field inspections. All employment offers are contingent upon the applicant successfully completing drug and background screenings. Once qualified candidates have been identified, the recruiting team will schedule interviews.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college degree program in Civil Engineering or related discipline (Junior or Senior preferred)
  • 3.5 GPA or better desired
  • US Citizen or Green Card required
  • Current driver’s license with a safe 3-year driving records required
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office suite required
  • Above average math calculations skills required
  • Organization and planning skills required
  • Demonstrated research skills and resourcefulness
  • Ability to work well individually and in a team
  • Demonstrated interest and ambition to learn and work in a competitive, fast-paced industry

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience is preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD preferred
  • Good oral and written communication skills desired

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monitoring, testing and conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure plans, specifications, materials, traffic & erosion control devices, quality assurance and safety standards are met
  • Perform engineering inspection activities such as construction observation, conducting field tests for concrete, asphalt, & earthworks under the supervision of a senior engineer
  • Ensure all materials, procedures and safety rules comply with the latest DOT standards.
  • Record daily construction inspection notes for CEI document management
  • Assist engineers with development of spreadsheet tools
  • Copy and scan project related drawings
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor
