About The Position

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking several Construction Compliance Inspectors (TE2) to support the I-405/SR 167 Program based in Bothell, WA. These roles are crucial for ensuring major transportation projects are constructed in accordance with contract requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations. The positions involve working closely with project teams and contractors to verify compliance, document progress, and support the successful delivery of complex infrastructure improvements. The work directly supports WSDOT’s mission by helping deliver reliable, cost-effective transportation systems that improve mobility and strengthen communities across the region.

Requirements

  • Applied Engineering Expertise: Ability to apply engineering principles, methods, and standards to transportation or infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Technical Problem-Solving and Analysis: Skill in identifying issues, evaluating solutions, and applying sound judgment to support safe and effective project outcomes.
  • Specialized Engineering Knowledge: Understanding of civil, structural, geotechnical, traffic, or transportation engineering concepts and their application in a construction environment.
  • Operational Readiness and Safety: Ability to safely operate vehicles, travel to field locations, and follow established safety procedures in active construction environments.

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate state-owned vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections of Design-Build construction activities to ensure compliance with contract requirements, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Document inspection activities through detailed daily reports, photos, and project tracking systems.
  • Communicate non-compliance issues to project staff and contractors, documenting and tracking resolution through established systems.
  • Complete construction documentation to support contract records, including compliance tracking, audits, and field reviews.
  • Conduct audits and verify contractor and subcontractor compliance with contract requirements, including wage rate interviews and on-site reviews.
  • Perform materials verification inspections and testing in both field and lab settings, including concrete and soil testing.
  • Transport materials, samples, and equipment, and work in environments that may include uneven terrain, heavy equipment, and active traffic.
  • Share knowledge and support the training of new inspectors on standard practices, procedures, and documentation requirements.
