About The Position

HDR is seeking an intern to join its North Carolina Water Business Group Construction Administration Services team. The role supports construction administration for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects, assisting project managers and resident project representatives across multiple construction sites in North Carolina. Work may take place outdoors in the field or in an HDR office as needed. Activities include photographic and written documentation and oral communication with contractors, engineers, owners, and members of the public. The position may require extensive outdoor work and reliable transportation to rural jobsites. Employment is subject to a preemployment drug test.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
• Attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.
• Commitment to actively participating in HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Nice To Haves

• Enrollment in a BS or MS program in Construction Management or another related Engineering program.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to thrive in a team environment.
• Interest or experience in the construction industry.
• Coursework in construction management or construction engineering.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Procore or similar software.
• Preference is given to local candidates.

Responsibilities

• Assist with onsite construction inspection for contract compliance.
• Coordinate and oversee construction materials testing.
• Document construction progress.
• Review shop drawings.
• Coordinate Job Site Hazard Analysis.
• Prepare and coordinate Owner’s facility documentation.
• Support and advise construction administration project managers and resident project representatives on multiple construction sites across North Carolina.
• Create photographic and written documentation and communicate with contractors, engineers, owners, and private citizens.
