Construction Accounting Manager

About The Position

A well-established, privately held organization is seeking a Construction Accounting Manager to join its Phoenix team. This is a hands-on leadership role with direct exposure to the CFO and senior management, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations while supporting the financial performance of active construction projects. The ideal candidate brings a strong construction accounting background, including WIP, job costing, progress billing, change orders, and project financial reporting, along with experience leading an accounting team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • 8+ years of accounting experience
  • 3+ years of accounting management experience
  • 3+ years of construction accounting experience required
  • Strong understanding of WIP and job costing
  • Experience with progress billing, change orders, and project budgets
  • Strong month-end close, GL, reconciliation, and financial reporting experience
  • Experience overseeing AP, AR, payroll, and cash management
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Sage construction accounting software experience is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and accounting personnel
  • Manage the general ledger and support the monthly close process
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, collections, and payroll
  • Prepare cash management reports, monitor cash flow, and identify potential financial concerns
  • Partner with Project Managers and department leaders to review project financial performance
  • Track and analyze WIP, job costs, project budgets, and construction-related variances
  • Support progress billing and change-order accounting
  • Maintain accurate financial records and effective internal controls
  • Prepare monthly financial and operational reporting for management
  • Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, compliance, insurance reporting, and other special projects
  • Help maintain and optimize Sage and other construction-related accounting systems
