About The Position

The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium's Conservation Department is seeking two part-time Head-Starting Technicians. These technicians will be responsible for the daily care and husbandry of the Lake Sturgeon restoration initiative and will also support the Blanding’s Turtle and Copperbelly Watersnake head-starting programs. This role reports to the Director of Vertebrate Conservation and requires a minimum of 24 hours of work per week, with potential for weekend and holiday work. Housing is not provided.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Prior experience working with captive turtles, snakes, or fish.
  • Previous work with teenage volunteers or community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Daily feeding, cleaning, and care of the captive conservation collection.
  • Collecting accurate data, including weights, measurements, and feedings.
  • Attention to detail, especially pertaining to the head-started animals.
  • Weekly collection updates to supervisor.
  • Training and supervising teenage volunteers or staff.
  • Additional Zoo-related tasks as required.
