About The Position

Our Conservation Department is currently seeking Part-Time Head-Starting Technicians. We are seeking two part-time technicians to handle daily care and husbandry of our Lake Sturgeon restoration initiative and provide support for our Blanding’s Turtle and Copperbelly Watersnake head-starting programs. This position reports to the Director of Vertebrate Conservation, is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, requires a minimum of 24 hours worked and may require work on weekends and holidays.

  • Respectful and professional in interactions with other team members, partners, and the public
  • Must have the ability to lift 50lbs
  • The Toledo Zoo is a drug-free workplace, including marijuana.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior experience working with captive turtles, snakes, or fish.
  • Previous work with teenage volunteers or community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Daily feeding, cleaning, and care of the captive conservation collection.
  • Collecting accurate data, including weights, measurements, feedings, etc.
  • Attention to detail, especially pertaining to the head-started animals.
  • Weekly collection updates to supervisor.
  • Training and supervising teenage volunteers or staff
  • Additional Zoo-related tasks as required.
