About The Position

We are looking for a Technical Advisor, Claims – Surety for our growing team in our Montreal or Quebec City office! As such, you will be part of one of the highest-performing claims teams in the industry. Reporting to the Director, Claims – Surety and Credit Insurance, in Quebec, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing complex surety claims. People will count on you to ensure rigor and thoroughness in your analysis of files, particularly concerning the eligibility of claims and the measures to be taken to minimize losses for Intact while ensuring compliance with its obligations. You will thus evolve in an environment that is both enriching and results-oriented, where you contribute to achieving profitability and claims processing objectives. NOTE: The level of the role offered will be determined based on skills, experience, and academic background.

Requirements

• Post-secondary diploma in law, engineering, business administration, finance, or accounting.
• Ten years or more of relevant work experience.
• Professionalism, flexibility, and excellent customer service.
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Good organizational skills, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively in a team, particularly with all key internal collaborators (underwriter, lawyer, accountant, engineer, etc.).
• Bilingualism required (French / English). Necessity to handle claims files from an English-speaking clientele on a regular basis.
• Valid claims adjuster license in property and commercial liability insurance issued by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) (held or to be obtained).

Responsibilities

• Analyze complex claims in surety files, communicate with various stakeholders in a construction project to effectively resolve difficulties encountered.
• Develop and establish a strategy to minimize losses while respecting Intact's obligations.
• Ensure the recovery of sums paid by Intact.
• Coordinate the management of complex litigation files and the technical and financial aspects of the files.
• Manage all aspects of claims files, including the administrative component, and effectively assign certain tasks to different team members (lawyers, engineers, accountants).
• Coach and support other team members.
• Collaborate on improving claims management.
• Note and communicate in a timely and effective manner all measures taken in a file to support the decisions made.
• Report regularly to the management team.
• Collaborate closely with the underwriting team.
• Perform other related tasks as needed.
