About The Position

Resurrection has an opening for a Connection and Care Pastor in our Locations division! The position is full-time, exempt and is located at the Overland Park campus 8412 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS 66212. The Connection and Care Pastor serves the Resurrection community as a visible and accessible leader at the location, with a focus on fulfilling the church’s purpose of building a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. They serving as a pastoral shepherd, fostering congregant connections and extending congregational care on an individual basis. As a member of the Locations & Care Division, they ensure congregants become involved, engaged and have access to outstanding pastoral care resources. This role extends the work of the Location Pastor by participating in community outreach, connection, care, and engagement of people in the church’s ministries. This work includes the implementation of invitational strategies in the community, pastoral care, guest connections, congregant reconnections, discipleship/spiritual formation, leadership in worship services and the deployment of lay care ministers.

Requirements

  • Ordination: An elder or licensed local pastor in the UMC, or equivalency from a sister denomination.
  • Training and proven effectiveness in previous pastoral care

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary pastoral leaders at congregational and community gatherings to welcome and engage with congregants, including participation and leadership during worship services, outreach and fellowship events and ministry programs.
  • Develop and oversee events, gatherings and one-on-one opportunities to minister to, disciple, and encourage congregants and community members to grow in Christian faith.
  • Assist in connection and reconnection ministries, seeking to help each person grow spiritually through commitment to the Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life: worship, study, serve, give and share.
  • Provide care for individuals including hospital visits, short-term counseling for individuals, couples and families, and follow up on prayer requests and care opportunities.
  • Provide pastoral leadership for weddings, funerals, confirmation and other milestone events along congregants’ journey at Resurrection.
  • Give sacramental leadership to the congregation through the ministry of communion and baptism, if ordained or licensed in the United Methodist Church.
  • Be available, when needed, for emergency care, on-call duty, onsite care and hospital rotations.
  • Lead the development of lay care ministers, equipping them to provide outstanding connections and care aligned with the church’s theology and practices.
  • Support the work of the Ministries and Programs at the location through participation, leadership and volunteering, as needed, including teaching, facilitating and instructing classes, and providing assistance to support groups.
  • Demonstrate commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion among the staff, congregation and community, and providing leadership for others to do the same.
  • Follow established standard ministry procedures for pastoral care.
  • Follow Jesus and engage in the “five essential practices” of the Christian life: worship, study, serve, give, and share.
  • Support the church’s purpose of “building a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people become deeply committed Christians.”
  • Exemplify the church’s values and support its theological direction as a United Methodist Church.
