Configuration Data Manager III

BLUE ORIGIN•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

The Configuration Data Manager III (Configurator) is part of Blue Origin’s Engines business unit, which designs, develops, manufactures, and tests engines and propulsion systems. The role owns the product configuration baseline across the full system lifecycle—from concept and design through production, test, and final customer delivery. It safeguards eBOM integrity, maintains as-built configuration records for serialized deliverables, and administers change control so engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management work from an authoritative product definition. The role also works with AI developers to create tools and processes that improve engineering efficiency in product development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of configuration-management experience on complex hardware development programs in aerospace, defense, industrial systems, or comparable fields.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PLM/PDM tools such as PTC Windchill, Agile, ENOVIA, Teamcenter, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61, and/or AS9100 quality-management requirements.
  • Experience owning eBOM structures and managing change-control workflows in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to data accuracy and configuration traceability.
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted to the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Ability to meet the applicable background-check requirements for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing automated tools or scripts using Python, VBA, SQL, or similar for BOM analysis, reporting, or data reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital-thread/digital-twin initiatives.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES) and their integration with PLM/PDM for as-built tracking.
  • CMPIC or equivalent configuration-management certification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and control engineering Bill of Materials (eBOM) structures from concept through delivery, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Develop and maintain tools and processes to capture and track as-built/as-delivered BOMs and configuration records for serialized units, supporting production-floor verification and customer deliverable packages.
  • Establish and maintain configuration identification schemes, including part and document numbering, serialization, lot/serial effectivity conventions, and revision control standards.
  • Own and administer the Configuration Management Plan (CMP) in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Manage the change control process, including initiating, tracking, coordinating, and dispositioning ECRs, ECOs, and ECNs.
  • Chair or support the Configuration Control Board (CCB) and coordinate cross-functional review and approval of proposed changes.
  • Perform Configuration Status Accounting (CSA), maintaining auditable records of approved baselines, changes, waivers, deviations, and change history.
  • Plan and execute Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audits (PCA) to verify delivered hardware and software against the approved design baseline.
  • Interface with PLM/PDM systems to ensure data integrity and synchronization across eBOM, mBOM, and sBOM structures.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to translate eBOM into mBOM, resolve discrepancies, and capture manufacturability requirements.
  • Manage interface control documentation (ICDs) and support interface configuration control with customers, subcontractors, and partners.
  • Support supplier and subcontractor configuration-management compliance by reviewing deliverable data packages and verifying traceability against approved drawings and specifications.
  • Participate in IPTs and program reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR, FRR) as the configuration-management subject matter expert.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and automated tools to provide visibility into BOM health, change backlog, anomalies, waiver/deviation status, and baseline currency.
  • Train and mentor engineering and operations staff on configuration-management processes, tools, data standards, and best practices.
  • Support customer and internal quality audits, prepare objective evidence packages, and respond to findings.
