About The Position

This position is responsible for moving condemned poultry from the processing area to the rendering area. The role involves transporting product on drains and walkways, moving condemned barrels, and potentially recording information about condemned products. The Condemned Handler is expected to be a team player, participate in ongoing development, and adhere to Simmons Operating Systems principles. This role requires the ability to work in a plant environment, stand, reach, move about the facility, bend at the waist, and use light to moderate physical effort. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn.

Requirements

  • Be able to efficiently work in a plant environment.
  • Regularly required to stand, reach and move about the facility.
  • Light to moderate physical effort required.
  • Frequent bending at the waist.
  • Will use waterproof footwear, gloves, apron, hearing protection, hair net(s) and other protective equipment as needed or required.
  • Competencies: Communication skills & decision quality - Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience working around machinery.
  • Preference for working knowledge of a processing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Locating and transporting product on drains and major walkway to rendering area.
  • Transporting condemn barrels to correct areas by using a two wheelbarrow cart.
  • Spraying condemn barrels with red dye.
  • Recording information of condemned products on forms.
  • Keeping an eye out for condensation and mopping as needed.
  • Participating as a member of the Team, including ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Coordinating work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attending appropriate team meetings.
  • Fostering strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues.
  • Accepting responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
  • Actively looking for ways, and reinforcing actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Being familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies).
  • Understanding the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems.
  • Considering the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performing other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
