About The Position

Western Specialty Contractors is looking for self-motivated individuals to serve as a Concrete Foreman at our Omaha, NE location. This role is part of the branch production team and is responsible for the performance of work within a particular work area in accordance with generally accepted standards of the crafts. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, customer service skills, and the ability to lead a crew.

  • Physically, workers must be able to: Stand or walk for long periods; lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more; climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment; and see (naturally or with correction)
  • Abilities to work at heights, at extreme temperatures, and to wear company's safety equipment are essential
  • Experience in a trade or craft is required, preferably in concrete and masonry.

Responsibilities

  • Set forms
  • Set the appropriate subbase/grade for new concrete
  • Read simple drawings
  • Run heavy equipment needed to remove existing concrete (i.e.: skid loader w/ breaker, air hammers, mini excavator)
  • Manage crew and lead others during pours
  • Proficient in finishing slab on grade concrete, parking garage slabs, sidewalks, curb, and gutter, etc.
  • Supervise workers assigned to area of responsibility to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications and meets quality standards
  • Act as the competent person on the job by identifying existing and predictable hazards which are unsanitary, hazardous or dangerous to employees and halting any operation or removing employees from environments that may be dangerous
  • May mix cement, using hoe or concrete mixing machine
  • Load, transport, unload, and furnish experienced craft worker with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary
  • Rigging of mobile and stationary scaffolding on structures in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and workpieces during installation
  • May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of journeyman's tools and equipment
  • Perform other routine duties as directed by craft worker
  • May remove rough or defective spots from concrete using grinder, hammer, and/or chisel. May patch holes
  • Supervise & coordinate the activities of assigned workers, establish and adjust work sequences to meet construction schedules, and communicate progress to superintendent
  • Ensure that workers know and understand the company's safety policies
  • Maintain liaison with customer's representative and advise superintendent and/or project manager of potential problems.
