About The Position

The Concession Worker is responsible for providing friendly, efficient, and professional food and beverage service to guests at concession locations throughout Sam Houston Race Park. This position plays an important role in creating a positive guest experience by delivering quality products, maintaining clean and organized work areas, and providing fast and courteous service during live racing, simulcast racing, concerts, and special events.
The ideal candidate is dependable, energetic, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Concession Workers must be able to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining accuracy, cleanliness, and a positive attitude during busy periods.

Requirements

• Previous food service, concession, restaurant, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work quickly and accurately in a high-volume environment.
• Dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
• Ability to follow instructions and established food preparation and safety procedures.
• Ability to operate a point-of-sale system and handle cash accurately.
• Must be comfortable interacting with guests throughout the workday.
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, live racing days, and special events as scheduled.
• Must meet applicable age requirements for assigned duties involving alcohol service.
• TABC certification may be required depending on assigned duties.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in concessions, quick-service restaurants, stadiums, racetracks, arenas, or entertainment venues.
• Experience operating a cash register or point-of-sale system.
• Ability to remain calm and organized during high-volume periods.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Familiarity with horse racing or the entertainment industry is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner.
• Take and accurately fulfill guest food and beverage orders.
• Prepare, assemble, and serve food and beverage items according to established recipes, portions, and presentation standards.
• Operate concession equipment safely and properly.
• Maintain adequate supplies of food, beverages, condiments, utensils, cups, napkins, and other service items.
• Restock concession areas throughout the shift as needed.
• Accurately handle cash, credit card transactions, and other forms of payment in accordance with company procedures.
• Operate point-of-sale systems accurately and efficiently.
• Provide guests with correct change, receipts, and orders.
• Answer guest questions regarding menu items, pricing, and available products.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary concession stand throughout the shift.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, temperature control, and personal hygiene requirements.
• Properly store and rotate food and beverage products.
• Monitor food and beverage inventory and communicate shortages to management.
• Assist with opening and closing concession stands, including stocking, cleaning, and securing equipment and supplies.
• Work efficiently during high-volume periods, including live races, concerts, special events, and peak guest arrival times.
• Maintain a professional appearance and follow PENN Entertainment and Sam Houston Race Park appearance standards.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Report guest concerns, equipment issues, spills, hazards, or other operational concerns to a supervisor promptly.
• Work cooperatively with other concession workers, culinary staff, bartenders, supervisors, and other departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Food & Beverage Management.
