About The Position

Lightspeed is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join our Sales Experience team. In this role, you will be responsible for the point-of-sale and accounting space, creating intuitive experiences that will enrich merchants' daily operations through iterative design and delivery. The ideal candidate is an experienced product designer who is comfortable working in an environment where autonomy and proactivity are essential. You have a proven track record of transforming complex workflows into simple, clear customer journeys through user-friendly interfaces that integrate seamlessly with other workflows. You excel at identifying opportunities to deliver value and thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with engineers and product managers to create impactful experiences.

Requirements

  • Studies in design thinking or equivalent (degree in design, visual arts, architecture, industrial design, or communication).
  • At least five years of hands-on experience in in-house product design, UX, and UI.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to rally stakeholders around your design journey and explain work with care and concision.
  • Excellent visualization and design skills. Ability to synthesize something complex into something simple and aesthetic.
  • Experience across all digital and physical manifestations of our designs, from responsive web to native apps to the next technological leap.
  • Comfort working in technically complex environments. You won’t need to write code, but you aren’t intimidated by architecture documents, data models, or engineering discussions.
  • Understanding of how to use design systems, prototyping, and user research methodologies.
  • High level of self-awareness and deep empathy, both for the customer and for your team’s goals.
  • High curiosity and ability to consider product strategy and vision. You care not just about the look or design imperatives, but the underlying reasons why.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and a desire to continuously evolve your design process by leveraging AI tools to deliver better, more user-centric products.
  • Proficiency with a suite of design tools (Figma, Google Suite, JIRA, and other prototyping tools).
  • As a global company with employees and customers outside of Quebec, proficiency in English as a working language is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project work from a design perspective with autonomy and authority, holding project reviews and working sessions to help teams deliver the best possible solutions.
  • Leverage your UX expertise and deep understanding of design systems, UI design, and how micro-interactions can help users accomplish a task.
  • Proactively find ways to contribute during the backend application phases – whether it’s refining specifications, conducting exploratory research, ensuring alignment across teams, or getting ahead on future design work before it’s officially defined.
  • Transform nebulous concepts into precise ideas that form practical and enjoyable nominal features.
  • Design simple, elegant, and user-friendly global systems, flows, and interfaces.
  • Oversee the user experience and user interface from design through to launch.
  • Understand how to best utilize the current design system to ensure consistency across platforms and contribute to its continuous improvement.
  • Draw conclusions from research and data and know how to translate those conclusions into tangible solutions.
  • Build relationships with users and advocate for them when collaborating with cross-functional teams responsible for product, engineering, and marketing.
  • Explore and integrate AI and emerging technologies to shape new approaches.
  • Be a positive role model, promote culture within the studio, and advocate for design within Lightspeed.
