As the Automation Designer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, building and implementing new products, components, or technologies for Caterpillar Fleet Products including but not limited to Command for Hauling, Dozing, Drills, ADS, Safety and other related products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent technical degree.
  • Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of application and system development; ability to utilize a variety of specific tools and toolkits for developing applications.
  • Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with CREO – cabling/harness tool, electrical harness/cable routing, electrical drawing creation, or related experience.
  • Previous experience with CREO – sheet metal, solid modeling, contouring, light fabrications drawing creation, or related experience.
  • Previous experience with Teamcenter Vis Mockup or Workflow.
  • Previous experience with electrical schematics and the use of Creo Schematics or other equivalent tools.
  • Previous experience or familiarity with Caterpillar products.

Responsibilities

  • Researching new materials and competitive products.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
  • Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance.
  • Overseeing the efforts of drafting and testing specialists.
  • Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents.
  • Participating in buy-build analysis for product components.
  • Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.
