About The Position

This position is responsible for providing technical support to Divisional staff in the use and application of computer technology for their daily functional activities. The role involves acquiring and maintaining knowledge of all supported computer hardware and software, including Windows, Mac OS, and basic networking. Responsibilities include answering questions, resolving complaints, repairing equipment, configuring software, and installing new hardware and peripherals to ensure efficient, timely, and courteous service. The incumbent may also design, code, and test computer programs for specific product interfaces and will implement and lead training classes, as well as provide individual end-user training.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Information Technology or related field or two years of technical college from an accredited college or university - Preferred
  • Three years experience performing computer repair work
  • Some experience performing individual and classroom training of computer applications preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support and problem-solving assistance to all computer users on-site and in the field via telephone or remote support software.
  • Diagnoses problems to determine if they are within the software program, client application, or hardware.
  • Resolves problems by checking the type of computer, software, and client application.
  • Sets up and installs personal computers and peripheral equipment.
  • Builds and installs cable, connects hardware, tests hardware for proper operation, and installs software to recognize and utilize hardware.
  • Troubleshoots problems associated with Windows, Mac OS, Internet interface, Office 365, and Adobe products.
  • Installs optional hardware such as memory chips, modems, math co-processors, emulation boards, and font cartridges; modifies software programs accordingly.
  • Installs and sets up various software applications and upgrades; tests installations to ensure proper functioning.
  • Prioritizes repair work to meet user needs; informs users of progress or status of repairs; responds to users in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Coordinates with Computer Support Specialists or Network System Administrators for scheduling on-site visits if required.
  • Disables computer and peripheral equipment when necessary to relocate or change layout of equipment.
  • Performs necessary data back-ups before troubleshooting or repairing computers.
