About The Position

The Computer Science Research Fellow will join a multi-institutional research group working on machine learning, medical image processing, and multimodal modeling. The group’s NIH- and philanthropic-funded projects apply deep learning and conventional image-analysis techniques to medical images and text. Current clinical projects aim to help radiologists detect and classify vascular abnormalities in brain CT angiography images and reduce interpretation errors in brain CT and MRI through large language model summaries of medical records. The fellow will work with faculty in neuroradiology, medical physics and image processing, computer science and NLP, and computer vision. The work includes acquiring, preprocessing, and segmenting data; applying natural language processing to medical text; and implementing or extending state-of-the-art deep learning models, typically in Python. Experience with conventional image-processing techniques used in radiology is helpful but not required. The posting seeks a PhD postdoctoral fellow or PhD candidate with an interest in machine learning and medical image processing.

Requirements

  • Experience with computer vision and/or medical image processing.
  • A PhD in computer science or an equivalent discipline is preferred; the posting also welcomes a PhD candidate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with deep learning or AI models.
  • Experience with conventional image-processing techniques, especially techniques used in radiological imaging.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the listed faculty on machine learning, medical image processing, and multimodal modeling.
  • Acquire, preprocess, and segment data.
  • Apply natural language processing to medical text data.
  • Implement and extend state-of-the-art deep learning models, typically in Python.
