About The Position

Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time term faculty member in Computer Science with a strong background in cybersecurity and computer networking to join the faculty beginning January 2027 (Spring semester). The successful candidate will be eager to contribute to the University’s Lasallian Catholic mission of awakening, nurturing, and empowering learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. Rank (instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor) and salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications, professional record, and ranking credentials. We seek a broadly trained computer science faculty member whose primary areas of expertise are cybersecurity, networks, and related technologies. Based upon departmental needs and the candidate’s background, the successful candidate should be willing and able to teach foundational undergraduate computer science courses as well as undergraduate courses related to cybersecurity and networks. The successful candidate will express interest in supporting and developing the Cybersecurity Lab. The successful candidate will be passionate about undergraduate teaching and mentoring and interested in providing students with practical, hands-on learning experiences. The faculty member will have opportunities to develop laboratory exercises, cybersecurity projects, networking activities, and other experiential learning opportunities that connect classroom concepts with current industry practices.

Requirements

Minimum of a master’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information Security, information technology, computer engineering, or a closely related field.
Strong academic or professional background in cybersecurity and computer networking.
Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and practices such as network security, system security, ethical hacking, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, security tools, and cyber defense.
Knowledge of computer networks, network administration, operating systems, servers, and related technologies.
Ability to develop and supervise hands-on cybersecurity and networking laboratory activities.
Ability and willingness to teach undergraduate computer science courses outside the candidate’s primary specialization, such as introductory programming courses.
Strong interest in undergraduate teaching and working closely with students in a small-university environment.
Knowledge of effective learning strategies, instructional technologies, and contemporary approaches to computer science education.
Strong interest and ability in advising and mentoring students in both individual and group settings.

A doctoral degree in a related discipline from an accredited university is preferred.
Individuals with expertise in diverse scholarly and pedagogical approaches and experience mentoring members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses primarily in cybersecurity, computer networking, and related areas.
Teach additional computer science courses as departmental needs require, including introductory programming and foundational computer science courses.
Support, maintain, and help further develop the Cybersecurity Lab for undergraduate courses and related student projects and experiential learning.
Develop hands-on cybersecurity and networking laboratory activities that integrate theory with practical applications.
Advise and mentor undergraduate students regarding academics, internships, research opportunities, capstone projects, careers, and postgraduate opportunities.
Contribute to the continued development of the Computer Science curriculum, particularly in cybersecurity, networking, cloud computing, and server technologies.
Maintain awareness of emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, tools, industry practices, and professional standards and incorporate appropriate developments into the curriculum.
Collaborate with faculty across computer science and other disciplines on curricular and scholarly initiatives.
Develop professional relationships with regional employers, technology companies, cybersecurity professionals, educational partners, and other stakeholders to strengthen student learning and career opportunities.
Provide professionally related service to the department, University, and community through participation in faculty meetings, committees, recruitment activities, student club advisement, department projects and activities, and other University initiatives.
Indicate interest in academic scholarship in the academic field and/or teaching and learning.
