About The Position

Murphy's Pharmacies is seeking a dedicated and experienced Compounding Pharmacist in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to lead their Compounding practice. This role focuses on healthcare professional and patient education, individual consultations, community-based seminars, and lab oversight to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality pharmaceutical compounding. Requirements

  • Licensed Pharmacist in good standing with a Canadian provincial regulatory body.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in non-sterile compounding within a community pharmacy.
  • Strong understanding of NAPRA standards and Canadian pharmacy practice.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for personalized medicine and patient-centered care.
  • Business acumen and relationship-building skills with healthcare providers.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in compounding (e.g., PCCA training or equivalent).
  • Experience with pharmacy management systems and compounding software.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor lab team.
  • Provide ongoing training and competency assessments for lab team.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to promote awareness and trust in Murphy’s Pharmacies’ compounding services.
  • Act as a clinical resource for prescribers by offering formulation guidance, therapeutic alternatives, and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to expand compounding services based on community needs, prescribing trends, and emerging therapeutic areas.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists in all Murphy's Pharmacies locations to educate and promote personalized compounded medication options for clients.
  • Collaborate with the Support Team to develop and implement marketing strategies, educational outreach, and referral programs.
  • Meet directly with prescribers and seek out professional networking opportunities.
  • Monitor performance metrics related to compounding (e.g., prescription volume, revenue, repeat clients) and contribute to growth targets.
  • Prepare and verify non-sterile compounded medications tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Ensure all compounding activities comply with NAPRA Model Standards and applicable provincial regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, labeling, and batch records for compounded products.
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of compounding equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for compounding operations compliant with PEI College of Pharmacy and NAPRA requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits and ensure adherence to quality assurance protocols.
  • Manage incident reporting and corrective actions related to quality assurance.
  • Stay current with evolving standards from NAPRA, Health Canada, and provincial Colleges of Pharmacy.
