About The Position

The successful candidate will control the specification, approval, and management of company component data. This role involves liaising with various teams including engineering, procurement, configuration management, commercial, PCB and mechanical design, as well as component manufacturers and suppliers to create and manage accurate component data. The position requires processing new component forms, augmenting data with details like moisture sensitivity level, storage conditions, reflow temperature, dimensions, and weight, and ensuring no duplicate components are entered into the library. The role also includes entering component parameter data into the component data library and Product Lifecycle Management tool, identifying alternative components based on datasheet specifications, cost, and availability, and designating preferred and non-preferred components to encourage the use of preferred parts. Proactive management of component obsolescence, amending library data according to configuration management processes, and maintaining the library through rationalization and data integrity audits are key responsibilities. The role also involves acquiring evidence for compliance with environmental standards such as RoHS, COSHH, REACH, and WEEE, and managing complete families of components from selection to obsolescence. Maintaining market awareness of component manufacturers and their roadmaps to provide authoritative opinions on component selection is also required. The Component Engineer will be responsible for completing tasks within agreed service level agreements, ensuring the integrity and version control of the component data library, and encouraging best practices among new component originators. Enforcing company component naming and numbering conventions, creating 3-D component models, identifying alternative components, and creating component PCB footprints to IPC standards are also part of the role. Additionally, the position involves designing schematic symbols, operating in accordance with company policies, reporting on achievements and progress, and participating in continuous improvement activities.
