About The Position

Conducts safety inspections and trainings to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all safety standards and regulations. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible role working Monday through Friday, days. Travel is required 50%-70% within Ohio, with same-day travel and minimal overnight stays. A valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance are required by hospital policy. Candidates must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, and driving qualifications, as well as training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Healthcare Safety, Environmental Safety, Fire Science, related field, equivalent professional experience in lieu of a formal degree, required.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements.
  • Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.
  • Certificate in fire-fighting methodology within one year of hire, required.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Hour Outreach Training Program certification within one year of hire, required.
  • HAZWOPER 24 Hour Initial Training certification within one year of hire, required.
  • Certification in Hazardous Material Handling and related USDOT regulations within one year of hire, required.
  • Working knowledge of Ohio buildings codes, Joint Commission, OSHA, and the Ohio Fire Code.
  • Working knowledge of ergonomics and body mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of disaster response protocols.
  • Four years of experience in healthcare safety or related field, required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts regular safety inspections of the facilities and safety equipment to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Oversees general safety programs, collects and analyzes statistical data on safety, and ensures accurate documentation is maintained.
  • Coordinates and conducts staff and volunteer training on safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Advises staff on safety compliance and assists with any questions or issues.
  • Escalates violations and non-compliance to appropriate leadership.
  • Coordinates the performance of fire, abduction and tornado drills for main campus and off-site locations.
