About The Position

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted.  This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate’s skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.   All employees who apply for a posted position must notify their supervisors that they have applied. Employees who have not been in their current positions for at least one year or who are in a position with specific requirements beyond one year, must obtain approval from their supervisor before applying.   The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted. This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate’s skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.   This is a full-time, on-site position located at any FirstEnergy location (OH, PA, WV, NJ).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline, plus 2 years of related work experience required. In lieu of a degree, 4 years of related experience will be considered.
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements; estimating and planning work; and monitoring requirements through completion.
  • Ability to conduct research independently and analyze data, interpret results, and support implementation activities.
  • Deliver accurate, high-quality work within established deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare and deliver presentations for a variety of audiences.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline, plus 4 years of related work experience required. In lieu of a degree, 7 years of related experience will be considered.
  • Compliance Specialist level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of NERC standards and policies for the electric utility industry is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Cascade, PowerBase, CREWS, SAP, GIS, querying tools (e.g., Hyperion, Toad), and reporting tools (Power BI) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret requirements from regulatory entities, including state commissions and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).
  • Apply FirstEnergy Substation Maintenance Practices and Methods by aligning maintenance requirements to substation equipment.
  • Assess compliance with state and federal regulatory commitments by supporting regulatory reporting against applicable policies and standards.
  • Support FirstEnergy compliance with NERC, ReliabilityFirst (RF), and state standards; identify opportunities to improve tracking and reporting.
  • Identify, review, and analyze gaps between state rules and NERC standards and existing FEU processes; recommend actions to close gaps.
  • Conduct research, analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to management.
  • Review regulatory reports and ensure technical accuracy.
  • Prepare for, coordinate, and support compliance audits conducted by internal resources, consultants, or regulatory organizations.
  • Anticipate customer needs and deliver high-quality results.
  • Support the Emergency Plan by participating in assigned storm duties, including hazard response and dispatch activities.
  • Support Asset Management and Operational Excellence business plans and initiatives, as required.
