About The Position

WEL Companies, Inc. is an industry-leading refrigerated trucking business that started as a family business in 1975. It has grown to over 400 trucks and 700 trailers, providing award-winning nationwide service to some of the largest companies in the food, beverage, and dairy industries. The Compliance & Risk Manager will assist in reviewing all accident claims to WEL equipment, ensuring prompt and accurate completion. This role involves reviewing driver qualifications for FMCSA compliance, ensuring D/A testing requirements are met within mandated timelines, and collaborating with all departments on compliance and risk matters. The manager will need a full understanding of the company's risk posture across various areas, including HOS compliance, safety scoring, workman’s comp, remedial training, employment verifications, and random drug testing. Key responsibilities also include recommending continuous improvements to foster a safety-focused work culture, assuring proper accountability for driver preventable accidents, and coaching, mentoring, and developing the team, including training new hires and retraining current team members. The manager will also be responsible for creating and maintaining all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and performing other assigned safety duties. This is a full-time position based in De Pere, WI, and may require up to 25% travel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 plus years of related experience

  • Associates degree (two-year college or technical school)
  • AS400 experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing all accident claims to WEL equipment and ensure completion of claim is prompt and accurate.
  • Review of driver qualifications to ensure FMCSA compliance with the entire fleet.
  • Ensure any D/A testing requirements due to a D.O.T. recordable incident is completed within a mandated timeline.
  • Collaboration with all departments on anything regarding compliance and risk.
  • Have a full understanding of where the company sits from a Risk standpoint in all areas including but not limited to, HOS compliance, safety scoring, workman’s comp, remedial training, employment verifications, and random drug testing.
  • Recommend continuous improvements to support a safety focused work culture and proactive mindset to reduce the risk.
  • Assure proper accountability is delivered for driver preventable accidents to Driver Retention group
  • Coach mentor and develop team, assisting in training new hires and retraining current team, when applicable.
  • Create and maintain all SOP’s.
  • Other safety duties as assigned.
