The Director of Compliance is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a practical, risk-based compliance program for a multistate dermatology practice operating in Florida and Illinois. The role provides independent compliance leadership, advises executive leadership and the governing body on compliance risk, oversees HIPAA privacy and security compliance, leads compliance training and communication, coordinates auditing and monitoring activities, supports investigations and corrective action, and promotes a culture of ethical and compliant conduct across all practice locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Legal Studies, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in healthcare compliance
  • CHC, CHPC, CHC-F, CPC, CPMA, RHIA, RHIT, or comparable certification
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare billing regulations.
  • Excellent communication, judgement, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient with EMR/EHR systems and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive compliance program that aligns with OIG guidance, HIPAA, and federal and state healthcare laws.
  • Chair the Compliance Committee and coordinate meetings, agenda, minutes, workplan updates, risk reporting, audit results and corrective action tracking.
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert on compliance related issues.
  • Lead the annual compliance risk assessment and develop a risk-based annual compliance work plan addressing high-priority risks across billing, coding, documentation, medical necessity, HIPAA privacy and security, marketing, physician arrangements, vendor oversight, licensure, and site-level operations.
  • Oversee HIPAA Privacy and Security programs, ensuring compliance across clinical sites, telehealth services, and digital communication platforms.
  • Develop and deliver compliance education for onboarding and annual training cycles.
  • Develop and oversee the policy and procedure program; monitor regulatory changes and partner with other leaders to update policies accordingly.
  • Develop and oversee a risk-based auditing and monitoring program, including routine monitoring of exclusion screening, licensure, documentation, coding, billing, medical necessity, HIPAA, marketing, vendor, and site-level compliance controls.
  • Provide regular compliance reports to the CEO, Compliance Committee, and governing body or designated board committee; prepare reports for regulatory bodies as required.
  • Manage or coordinate the intake, documentation, investigation, resolution, and corrective action tracking of compliance concerns, including coordination with legal counsel, HR, IT, clinical leadership, and revenue cycle leadership as appropriate.
  • Maintain and promote confidential and nonretaliatory reporting channels, including an anonymous reporting mechanism, and ensure all compliance concerns are logged, reviewed, investigated, resolved, and reported as appropriate.
