About The Position

The Compliance Officer develops, implements, and administers Frontwave’s Compliance Management Program. This role oversees day-to-day administrative and operational compliance activities; participates in compliance-related committees, audits, and examinations; provides compliance training to staff and Management; tracks and reports inherent and emerging compliance risks; and advises the credit union on controls to reduce the risk of non-compliance. The Compliance Officer also ensures enterprise-wide adherence to federal and state regulations, rules, and laws; Frontwave policies and procedures; and sound credit union practices by monitoring regulatory changes and keeping staff informed of applicable updates to safeguard the credit union against legal, financial, and reputational risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Three to five years of compliance-related experience in a financial institution.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the stated education requirement.
  • In-depth background in banking regulatory compliance, financial services branch operations, and applicable federal, state, and local agency rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Strong understanding of financial institution concepts, principles, and practices, with demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to complex assignments, including the development of new processes, guidelines, or procedures.
  • Excellent research skills, with competence in collecting data, establishing facts, and interpreting a wide variety of technical instructions and regulatory guidelines.
  • Refined observation and analytical skills, with the ability to draw valid conclusions from facts in non-standard situations.
  • Proven ability to address complex problems involving multiple factors and variables while using sound organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in creating effective and persuasive presentations on operational and regulatory compliance matters for staff and Management.
  • Intermediate or advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated policy and procedure management software and compliance management systems is highly desirable.
  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Credit Union Compliance Officer (CUCO), Certified Community Bank Compliance Officer (CCBCO), or similar certification preferred or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and manages the credit union’s Compliance Management Program.
  • Oversees Frontwave’s regulatory compliance change management process and facilitates regulatory changes based on credit union needs, statutory requirements, and organizational initiatives.
  • Conducts periodic compliance risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities, process gaps, and opportunities for strengthening controls.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations through ongoing research and monitoring.
  • Communicates relevant regulatory updates to departments and branches and responds to staff questions about policies, procedures, operations, and compliance matters.
  • Develops, implements, and facilitates compliance training programs, presentations, exercises, and materials for staff and Management.
  • Reviews, documents, and updates compliance-related processes and recommends procedural changes to Management and other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Reviews credit union forms, documents, disclosures, advertisements, and promotional materials for accuracy, current usage, and regulatory compliance, including APY and APR calculations when applicable.
  • Analyzes internal processes, procedures, and controls and recommends improvements to increase efficiency, deter and detect fraud, mitigate risk, and support compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Investigates internal compliance breaches, member complaints, and audit deficiencies to support timely remediation.
  • Performs special engagements, analyses, and projects; gathers data; prepares reports for Management, audits, and other stakeholders; and ensures compliance with applicable reporting, recordkeeping, and document retention requirements.
