About The Position

BHSN, one of the fastest-growing organizations providing whole-person care in the region, is in search of a detail-oriented and dedicated Compliance Generalist to join our team! As a Compliance Generalist, you will play a critical role in ensuring BHSN complies with regulatory standards across programs throughout the organization. Working closely with the Compliance Manager, you will coordinate reporting, tracking, investigation, and follow-up on incidents, while executing other departmental duties to support the operations of an effective Quality and Compliance Department. This position may be based out of our Plattsburgh or Queensbury, NY office locations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in compliance or a regulatory role.
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulations.
  • Previous experience with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Compliance Department in logging, reviewing, and documenting reportable incidents, and conducting formal investigations as necessary.
  • Assist the Ombudsman with hearing complaints or grievances and conducting investigations as needed.
  • Report violations, including potential or actual breaches, as required.
  • Monitor implementation and effectiveness of Program Improvement Plans or other corrective action plans.
  • Participate in record audits, including but not limited to state agency regulatory recertification, grant compliance, and/or health plan audits—preparing requested documents, securely sharing documentation, and corresponding with auditors/reviewers.
  • Ensure timely, accurate completion and proper filing of all documentation related to audits, compliance hotline calls, investigations, self-disclosures, operating certificates, training records, and policy/procedure distributions.
  • Assist in the self-disclosure process and related activities to continually improve programmatic and overall agency compliance.
  • Gather information regarding payer reimbursement as part of follow-up on pre/post-billing compliance, utilization reviews, and/or compliance investigations.
  • Provide data and reports related to compliance activities as requested.
  • Correspond with OMH, OASAS, DOH, OCFS, and/or the Justice Center as needed to clarify compliance expectations.
  • Identify and communicate potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk.
  • Assist with gathering and reporting data across OMH programs for the Patient Characteristics Survey.
  • Maintain and protect client confidentiality and Protected Health Information in compliance with policy, training, and risk management practices.
  • Stay informed of federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
