About The Position

Provide assistance to people who have been found incompetent to proceed to trial or not guilty by reason of insanity. Assist clients to learn basic of the legal system in an effort to have them evaluated as competent. Offer individual and group training to achieve competency. Provide psycho-educational and stress/time management training, and review the conditions of the conditional release order. Support clients in their effort to stay in the community. Provide other case management services as needed. Meets with clients on a scheduled basis to provide competency training as agreed upon with the client and correctly tracks the progress of the clients receiving competency training. Completes all course preparation in a timely manner to ensure that the client receives adequate training during each session. Act as liaison to clients in a Florida State Hospital by attending treatment team meetings in person or a telephone, visiting every quarter, and maintaining necessary paperwork per case management regulation. Meets with Chapter 916, Florida Statue - Forensic clients who are Incompetent to Proceed or Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity to accurately and rapidly assess and document the client’s symptoms, diagnosis, and interventions, and assures that all program criteria are met for opening the case. Completes all documentation to open the client into TCM when appropriate. Completes an accurate and up to date assessment and service plan within 30 days of the client’s case being opened, and every six months thereafter. Establishes prioritized behaviorally descriptive, realistic desired changes with clients, and develops a realistic plan for their accomplishment with appropriate time frames. Maintains a Continuity of Care in accordance with Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Codes, 65E-15, Case Management Regional Operating Policy and Florida Medicaid Manual. Acts as an Advocate for the client at all relevant staff meetings, court hearings, etc. or arranges for a substitute. Links the client with necessary resources to assist with the client’s needs and monitors the effectiveness of these interventions. Uses appropriate crisis intervention skills and anticipates and prevents crisis where possible. Remains current in the general knowledge of psychotropic medication, side effects, and DSM IV diagnosis, and recognizes when medical services are appropriate. Makes a minimum of one monthly face to face contact, and one bi-monthly home visit, with all clients opened in TCM or documents reasons for failure. Meets other clients a minimum of bi-monthly. Meets productivity standard. Utilizes support funds effectively to meet the needs of the clients. Completes all progress notes and other documentation (i.e. timecards, outcome measures, FARS etc.). Completes all required judicial reports every six months, or as requested by the courts. Monitors the conditional releases for appropriate clients, and advocates for least restrictive community placement post-incarceration. Attends all court dates as requested by the Public Defender’s Office. Travel 85% of the time, to and from designated homes and facilities, to facilitate competency trainings.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field.
  • 1 year work experience providing at least 12 months of related case management service to either the adult or child population.
  • Completion of AHCA approved targeted case management training within 3 months of Hire.
  • Must be certified through the Florida Certification Board (FCB) within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Negative Drug Screening prior to hire and throughout employment.
  • Clear Criminal Background Check throughout employment with Suncoast Center and local checks prior to hire and annually along with DCF Level II prior to hire and as required by DCF, and Must have valid Florida Driver’s License Motor Vehicle checks prior to hire and annually with acceptable driving record maintained throughout employment along with reliable vehicle, valid registration, and valid vehicle insurance.(must be in compliance with Florida Laws and Administrative Codes with fingerprinting and determined to be of good moral character).
