About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Director Compensation, the Compensation Advisor ensures the fair and equitable application of McGill’s Salary Administration Policies. The incumbent reviews and analyzes a variety of compensation requests. Responsible for conducting/participating in compensation surveys and for the implementation of annual salary increases. Acts as a resource person for compensation issues and formulates recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, industrial relations, actuarial science, commerce or a related field
  • 3 years of experience in compensation
  • Judgment, analytical skills, attention to detail, problem solving, communication skills including strong ability to write job descriptions and other documentation.
  • Experience in a variety of compensation programs.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Ability to liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts and to provide guidance and make recommendations to HR Advisors/representatives, managers, and supervisors on variety of HR and compensation issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Strong experience and knowledge using advanced EXCEL.
  • Solid knowledge of job market and compensation trends.
  • Spoken and written English and French.

Nice To Haves

  • The Certified Human Resources Professional (CRHP) designation is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience working on large pay equity programs an asset.
  • Workday knowledge is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyzes requests for creation of new positions and requests for rematch for various employee groups.
  • Reviews and analyzes a variety of compensation requests including special salary adjustments, hiring salaries, non-base payments, etc.
  • Conducts/participates in compensation surveys with other universities or organizations.
  • Acts as a resource person, working closely with HR Advisors and Representatives on compensation issues and formulates recommendations.
  • Liaises with directors and managers regarding compensation issues and recommends solutions and alternatives.
  • Responsible for the communication and implementation of annual salary increases for a variety of classification groups including management, MUNACA, SEU, and others.
  • Collaborates and provides support to the Labour & Employee Relations team for costings during collective agreement negotiations.
  • Participates in a variety of human resources projects: pay equity calculations and costings (retroactive and future); analyzes, reviews, and recommends various internal guidelines and business processes improvements.
