About The Position

UMC HomeWorks, the home care agency of United Methodist Communities, is seeking per diem Companions to support older adults in Northern New Jersey. The organization serves clients in Sussex, Warren, Morris, Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties. Companions assist with everyday activities and foster meaningful social connections in clients’ homes. The position pays $16–$20 per hour, depending on shift, level of care, and weekend scheduling. Employees can choose day, evening, or night shifts. No experience or certification is required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 18 years old.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English to follow care plans and communicate with clients and staff.
• Applicants must be able to produce a negative drug test.
• Applicants may be subject to a background check.

Nice To Haves

• Caregiving experience, personally or professionally.
• Comfort working independently in a client's home.

Responsibilities

• Accompany clients to appointments, community activities, shopping trips, errands, and faith-based services as requested.
• Assist with meal planning and preparation, and provide companionship during mealtimes.
• Support a clean, organized, and safe home environment through light household tasks.
• Encourage social engagement through conversation, hobbies, games, and other preferred activities.
• Follow individualized service plans and communicate changes in client well-being, routines, or safety needs to appropriate team members.
