About The Position

The Companion provides direct companion care to high-risk patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse and/or physician, remaining in constant attendance with the patient. The role also provides standby personal care and comfort, and helps ensure the patient has a safe and clean environment. The position may include other duties as assigned, and the employer reserves the right to modify its duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Additional specialized training in nursing care.
Current Basic Life Support Certification within three months of hire.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate personal integrity and flexibility.
Ability to work effectively with personnel, clients, and support agencies.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

Remain in constant attendance with the patient.
Provide standby assistance with minor daily activities and attend to the patient's needs.
Notify appropriate licensed personnel when a patient reports pain or other complaints or concerns.
Accompany patients to tests, procedures, and other appointments.
Report and, when appropriate, record observed changes in a patient's condition or behavior.
Write clear, concise notes and simple charting that reflects the care provided.
Maintain effective working relationships with facility staff and other departments.
Follow Department of Nursing and facility policies and procedures.
Maintain professional conduct and communicate appropriately with patients, visitors, managers, supervisors, and coworkers.
Maintain organized records and provide them upon request.
Answer phone calls, assist the public, and forward inquiries when necessary.
Complete assigned tasks accurately and perform other duties as assigned.
