About The Position

Visiting Angels of Birmingham is hiring Companion Caregivers to support senior adults and home-care clients throughout the local area, including Calera, Birmingham, Saginaw, Montevallo, Alabaster, and Pelham. Caregivers help clients remain at home or recover at home with dignity. Visits vary by client and may include companionship, household assistance, meal preparation, mobility support, and help with daily activities. Caregivers must be prepared to respond to medical emergencies and promptly report health changes or unusual circumstances. Shift options include full-time, part-time, 8-hour, 10-hour, 12-hour, PRN, short-shift, and live-in schedules.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent time-management skills.
Reliable transportation to client visits.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with basic housekeeping and cooking tasks.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
Training or knowledge in First Aid and emergency response.
Compassion and interest in providing meaningful companionship to vulnerable people.
Willingness to comply with state and office-specific health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Manage light housekeeping.
Encourage clients to meet exercise and fitness goals.
Prompt clients to take prescription medications at the appropriate times.
Help clients shop and put away groceries, or shop on their behalf.
Plan and prepare meals in collaboration with clients, based on client ability.
Assist clients with mobility and ambulation, including getting around the house, visiting the doctor, and taking walks.
Respond promptly to medical emergencies.
Report health changes or unusual circumstances.
