Community Support Specialist / Day Activities Staff
About The Position
This non-exempt position supports people with developmental disabilities who attend The Salvation Army’s Day program in New Castle County, Delaware. The role helps individuals become more independent and engaged in their local communities through recreational, socialization, volunteering, and employment activities. Day Activities Staff carry out the organization’s mission and values by supporting individuals in making positive changes in their lives. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and reports to the Program Coordinator for the location. The position is immediately available in the New Castle County area. Compensation is $20.00 per hour.
Requirements
- Associate degree in a related field or two years of experience working with a special needs population.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience supporting people with a range of developmental disabilities.
- Positive attitude toward the abilities of individuals with disabilities.
- Good communication skills.
- Desire to engage people in activities that meet their interests and broaden their horizons.
- Complete the required Delaware child abuse history clearance, Delaware State Police criminal record check, FBI criminal record/fingerprint check, drug testing, and TB screenings.
- Understanding of and appreciation for The Salvation Army’s mission.
