About The Position

The Community Support Specialist / Day Activities Staff is a non-exempt position in The Salvation Army’s Developmental Disabilities Program, Supported Employment/Community Options, serving New Castle County, Delaware. The role supports people with developmental disabilities who attend the Day program, helping them become more independent and engaged in their local community. Activities include recreation, socialization, volunteering, and employment opportunities. Staff implement the organization’s mission and values by supporting individuals in making positive changes in their lives.

Requirements

• An associate degree in a related field or two years of experience working with a special-needs population.
• Experience supporting people with a range of developmental disabilities.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Basic computer skills.
• Positive attitude toward the abilities of individuals with disabilities.
• Good communication skills and a desire to engage people in activities that meet their interests and broaden their horizons.
• Complete Delaware Child Abuse History Clearance, Delaware State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check, drug testing, and TB screening.
• Understanding of and appreciation for The Salvation Army’s mission.

Responsibilities
