The Community Support Services (CSS) program, offered through the Healing and Wellness Branch of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), is designed to help MNO Citizens maintain their independence and quality of life. The program supports individuals living with chronic illnesses, those who are terminally ill, and frail or elderly individuals who may be isolated. At the heart of the CSS program is the coordination and delivery of transportation for medical needs. Additional supports include friendly visiting, caregiver support, advocacy, client referrals, home safety assessments, and assistance with navigating complex systems such as Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP). For clients with literacy challenges, coordinators may provide reading support in accessing resources for end-of-life care. Volunteers are an essential part of the CSS program. Coordinators are responsible for recruiting volunteers, assigning services, and managing related payments and documentation. CSS Coordinators also play a vital role in building and sustaining strong relationships with local partners and service providers. These collaborations enhance service delivery, promote Métis culture and identity, and support the overall wellness of MNO Citizens. Through ongoing community engagement, the CSS program fosters inclusive, culturally relevant supports that reflect and honor the unique experiences of Métis people.
