About The Position

Under general direction, the Community Services Officer is a civilian (non-sworn) position that performs a variety of technical support duties in the Police Department relating to police reports, evidence packaging, storage and security, equipment and supplies, field office assistance, and vehicle abatement; and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Six (6) months customer service experience.
  • Ability to learn laws of arrest and relevant local, state and other laws and regulations.
  • Ability to learn standard police broadcast procedures, operating policies and Department procedures.
  • Ability to learn effective operation of computer terminal.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a personal computer and related word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to learn standard broadcasting procedures of a police radio system.
  • Ability to interview and document information for court presentation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public, and others encountered in the course of work.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in collection, preservation and transportation of evidence and property.
  • Receives, tags, stores, inventory and release property, including abandoned vehicles.
  • Performs communication operator duties on various occasions.
  • Assists the public in reporting non-emergency crimes, traffic accidents and other miscellaneous incidents.
  • Issues parking citations or other traffic related infractions as defined in the municipal/vehicle code.
  • Gathers and analyzes data related to police activities.
  • Interviews victims and witnesses.
  • Assists or refers various public inquiries for police assistance.
  • Performs court-related activities pertaining to officers and cases.
  • Processes documents and reports related to checks.
  • Inspects vehicles to ensure correction of violations.
  • Conducts crime prevention and related presentations.
  • Presents educational programs and materials in classroom situations at a variety of educational levels.
  • Assists at crime or accident scenes by providing traffic control.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
